Chocolate Prevent Colon Cancer
In previous studies, scientists have shown cocoa may help kill pre-cancerous cells in the colon for colon cancer fails. Now, one more benefit of chocolate that has been found in research.
The study, led by Dr. Maria Angeles Martin Arribas of Science and Technology Institute of Food and Nutrition, Spain, investigated whether chocolate can stop the progression of colon cancer by comparing the reaction between the two groups of rats.
One group of mice were given a diet containing 12 percent cocoa, while the other group was not given food containing cocoa. Over time, researchers injected azoxymethane (AOM) in mice, a kind of colon cancer-causing substances.
After four weeks, the symptoms of colon cancer showed signs of progress. However, mice fed cocoa indication of cancer less than mice that were not given cocoa intake.
The findings were published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research journal also supports cocoa as a super food that can improve gut health, since cocoa lowers oxidative stress that triggers abnormal cell growth and cancer.
Cocoa contains flavonoids, including procyanidins, catechins and epicatechins, which can prevent heart disease and cancer. Catechins and epicatechins also commonly found in tea.
However, Sarah Williams as spokesperson for Cancer Research UK warns that most eating chocolate can also be a negative effect.
"We know that chocolate contains fat and high calories, so eating too much will also affect your weight gain. As is well known, obesity may increase the risk of colon cancer. So eating too much chocolate did not seem like a good way to reduce the risk cancer, "he said, quoted by dailymail
