"Our findings suggest that fish consumption is directly proportional to the risk of colorectal cancer (colon and rectum cancer related)," said Dr. Liang and her colleagues. Consumption of fish regularly can reduce the risk of colon and rectum cancer by 12 percent.

This research was also supported by their age, whether a person drink alcohol and red meat intake, and family history of cancer.

"People who increase their intake of fish is likely to benefit their health such as prevention of heart disease, liberation from reproductive disorders and colon cancer," said Professor Michael Gochfeld of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The researchers did not determine the subject content of the fish are very beneficial for cancer prevention. They think omega-3 who has an important role for health. This substance is abundant in salmon and sardines. However, it remains unclear whether the fish oil capsules or other supplements have the same efficacy.

A study in February, it showed that women who ate about three servings of fish per week had a slightly lower chance of developing bowel cancer.
