Understanding Ovarian Cancer

Epithelial ovarian cancer or ovarian cancer known to originate from epithelial cells account for 90% of all cases of ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death to the 5th largest in the United States and is one of the seven most common malignancy worldwide. 

Ovarian cancer has a high mortality rate, from 23 100 new cases of ovarian cancer, approximately half of the 14,000 or more women die of this disease. Epithelial ovarian cancer is rarely found in women aged <40 years. 

The peak occurred in women aged 60-64 years. Epithelial ovarian cancer incidence was lower in developing countries and Japan.
