Bald Men Prostate Cancer Risk

Bald Men Prostate Cancer Risk

You haired bald man? Should be wary, because recent research suggests that bald headed men more at risk of prostate cancer.

Scientists do not yet know the reasons why this can happen, but according to them it is associated with higher levels of testosterone. This hormone can trigger the development of cancer cells but also can inhibit hair growth.

"The bald man's head, the greater their chances of developing prostate cancer. Guy with the bald head had heard this warning and prevention early if necessary biopsied faster," said lead investigator Dr. Neil Fleshner of the University of Toronto, quoted by Dailymail.

The findings are based on a small study involving 214 men aged 59-70 years, referred to biopsy because the levels of prostate specific antingen (PSA) increases, which is a marker in the blood that indicate increased risk of cancer.

Previously, the findings presented at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in Atlanta, Georgia, showed that male pattern baldness is more severe may be a sign of a tumor.

However, previous research in 2012 seemed to corroborate this study, where bald men are also more at risk of developing prostate disease called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a disease in which the prostate enlarges to compress the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body).
